Haven’t posted a tutorial in a while, I didnt write this one, but it’s been floating around the internet for sometime. Unsire of the author, but this will help many people as it did me!

Disclaimer: This guide is intended to give proper instructions on how to setup a Motorola V Series phone to check Google Gmail. Be warned that depending on the service plan you have with your mobile carrier, certain charges may incur for Internet usage. Check with your mobile provider for the cost of using Gmail on your mobile phone.

Preface
This guide is to be used to instruct individuals on how to setup a Motorola V Series phone to check Google Gmail, which is Google’s free web-based email service. This does not give instuction on how to setup email for other email providers so you must check with them yourself.

Setup
These instructions are designed for use with a Motorola V Series phone, however they’ve been tested and proven on the following phones.
Motorola V400, V551, V557, RAZR V3, and V600

Instructions

  1. Press the menu key

  2. Go to Messages

  3. Press the menu key

  4. Go to “Email Msg Setup

You are now viewing your POP3 email settings. They should be setup like listed below.

When you recieve a message that is too large for your phone to download it usually says “0 new messages, more messages available” The only work-around for this is to go to Settings > Forwarding and POP in your gmail account and enable pop “for mail that arrives from now on” (so your phone will skip the large message) or delete the large message instead of archiving it.

That’s it!

With those settings in place, you should be fully ready to check you Google Gmail from your Motorola V series phone. Be sure to enable POP3 access for your Gmail account at the website. Just simply go to Settings > Forwarding and POP to change the setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:I set up everything according to your instructions on your website. When I go try to enter into the email portion, it tells me: Email message inbox requires setup.

A: Did you enter your name in the name field? Sometimes when certain settings are left blank, the phone requires you to fill them in before it will connect to your email server.

Q: Yeah I entered everything in and I get that message, what else might be the problem?

A: It might be your connection settings. In the Email Msg Setup screen, go to ISP settings and select change. Your ISP settings should be as follows for using the email client with GPRS: (Note: These settings are case sensitive and are intended for customers of Cingular!)
