Since I am at my Junior year at Hopewell High school, we do a thing called Senior Exits which is a 3 year project from a students sophomore year. Check out what my senior exit project is going to be about. Also my thesis statement is in bold in this essay.
The topic I am interested in doing is “Would civilization benefit from the colonization of space?” The topic I have selected, I believe is interesting, exciting, and important. It is interesting, well because it’s the future and everyone is interested in what lies ahead. It’s exciting because of the rigorous trials humans will have to overcome in the challenge of taking our solar system. It’s also very important because it may be what human civilization may need to continue our existence, since the beginning of our existance man has gazed into the heavens and wondered, so we MUST continue to wonder. These three lightly specific reasons lead me to my topic. Some people may believe that the colonization of space will be a waste of time, effort, and money, but I believe that the colonization of space is necessary for mankind to continue our existence in our universe.
I consider myself an expert on the subject. I am interested in this topic because ever since I was an infant I’ve been interested in the worlds beyond Earth. While other kids watched Barney, I was watching Star-Trek, and I have no shame in it. So far my research has concluded that the colonization of space will be challenging, but humanity does have the technology and great minds. Another thing I have also done research in, is the types of civilizations. Our current civilization could be wiped out in an instant like the Dinosaurs, not just from meteorites but from Gamma-ray blast or other galactic events. This would end the reign of humans on earth, in order for our civilization to continue existence several thousands of ages (2150 years) into the future we will need to conquer the solar system.
The research I have not done, I hope to gain more knowledge on the subject from, and learn more about space and science. I believe the origin in our existence is in the study of the universe. What were once secretes could someday no longer be secretes to the ever growing civilization of man. I have had many ideas on what products I could do, one was a miniature model simulation of a thriving human civilization in interstellar space, or colonies and cities on Mars. Some other products I will do include a website and a program that features a 3d-modeled solar system that includes interstellar and planetary civilizations all striving together as one unit, instead of territories and boundaries. Like I said before, some people may think that the colonization of space is a waste of time, money, and effort, but I know that it is not. The future is today.
