MEPS

Military Entrance Processing Station, so much fun, yet a violation at the same time. MEPS is mandatory to enlist into the military. Not only is it a requirement, but it is fun. Well at least the hotel. First I was dropped off at the Holiday Inn, with other recruits going into other military branches, some shipping off the next day, others going into DEP like myself. It was truly an experience, there was a hotel lobby on the 3rd floor for recruits only. We were all given a room-mate, a key, free lunch, and breakfast. The lobby had big screen TV’s, one playing a movie, others with Playstation 3, and XBOX 360 connected and people playing. A table with chess, and two laptop computers. The hotel had a roof floor, with a pool on top, and gym, and jogging course. It was a nice hotel. As soon as I got everything together I hurried down to the lobby to play a game. I played COD3, Halo 3, and Resistance. Three truly nice games, I met people, socialized, and even networked with future soldiers. Most of the recruits were going into the Army, some going into the Navy, and only a few going into the Marines. I myself, was one that was there to go into the DEP for the Marine Corps Reserve. Experience is very important in life, and essential in my opinion. Once more, the hotel was absolutely amazing, I went to the roof, and just hung out, enjoying the view. The rest of my day was spent playing Halo 3 on XBOX360.

The next day came at 4AM. Shower, get ready, breakfast, wait for shuttle, board shuttle, prepare to enter MEPS, enter MEPS, see U.S. Marine Corps Liaison, take ASVAB, wait, wait some more, begin medical/ physical examination. Which means filling out forms, not lying, and doing as your told. In the end my examination at MEPS was great. I have 20/20 vision, great hearing, and I’m ultimately qualified. Now that “bend over, and spread your cheeks” time was over, it was time to send in fingerprints to FBI, finalize the DEP contract, and swear into DEP.

And that is a day at MEPS. It was truly a fun, exciting, interesting experience. Th next thing I will do is pick my job, but that’s another day after I know what college I’m going to. Hopefully NC State University. Where I can see myself going after a degree in Biomedical Engineering.
