Verdis OS - Baby Stages - OS Development Enviornment Machine and Bootloader stage
Alright some of my website visitors may or may not know about the development I have embarked upon, Verdis. An operating system in development single handed by me. The first drop release of Verdis won’t be as powerful I can predict, but I believe with continious and further development over time, Verdis will be something to look forward to. Right now I’m looking for a cheap computer to start development of Verdis on. Right now I only have my cheap Dell laptop, but I don’t think getting a cheap desktop pc somewhere that can do the job will be hard to find. Once I have my desktop PC, I will be setting up a development environment… IN order for me to have a proper painless OS development environment I will require a PC which has an adapted development environment which meets a certain number of requirements:
- * Should get to rapidly test my newly compiled kernel
- * Should never have to reboot my development machine
- * Should not need to use floppies neither CD’s and so on as a storage medium for my OS
After I have my environment setup, the first part of development I will need to cover would be a boot loader to load my kernel. There are a few I have now heavily considered. I’m still unsure, but I have my eyes on Grub2, lilo, and ppcboot, and Redboot caught my eye also. Which I am all studying. I am sure Verdis will be successful, the kernel will be linux 2.6 of course customized and modded for Verdis.
